Support the Black Lives Matter Movement

Many of you are wondering which organizations to donate to so that you can support protests and the Black Lives Matter movement. This list is in no way complete, but here are a few places to start. Also included are a few things you can do if you have no cash to spare. (Click the organization names to reach their donation sites.)

NAACP

“Your donation to the NAACP helps further our mission to ensure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.”

NAACP Empowerment Programs

“NAACP Empowerment Programs engages primarily in training, education, and advocacy at the national and local levels.”

ACLU

“Act with us to end police brutality, demand racial justice, and defend our right to protest. Your donation will fuel our legal battles and urgent advocacy efforts.”

The Bail Project

“The Bail Project™ National Revolving Bail Fund is on a mission to combat mass incarceration and reshape the pretrial system in the United States. 100% of online donations are used to bring people home. Since bail money comes back to us when cases close, we’re able to recycle every dollar donated at least twice per year.”

The National Bail Fund Network

(You can donate bail money specifically at the state level here.)

“The National Bail Fund Network is made up of over sixty community bail and bond funds across the country. We regularly update this listing of community bail funds that are freeing people by paying bail/bond and are also fighting to abolish the money bail system and pretrial detention.”

The LGBTQ Fund

“With your help, the LGBTQ Freedom Fund secures the liberty and safety of people held in jail or immigration detention, focusing on LGBTQ individuals.

In tandem, we raise awareness of the epidemic of LGBTQ overincarceration.”

The Marsha P. Johnson Institute

“The Marsha P. Johnson Institute joins you in responding to unjust violence systemically, physically and structurally as it happens to BLACK transgender people…when you become a partner, you help us employ black trans people, build more strategic campaigns, launch winning initiatives, and interrupt the people who are standing in the way of more being possible in the world for BLACK Trans people, and all people.”
